What is classed as builders' waste?

Builders' waste is the construction and demolition waste from a building job: rubble, bricks, concrete, tiles, plasterboard, timber, flooring, old kitchens and bathrooms, doors, windows, pipework, insulation, packaging and the general rubbish of a site. It is commercial waste even when the job is in someone's home, so it cannot go in household bins or to a household recycling centre; the contractor needs a registered carrier and a waste transfer note. Plasterboard must be kept separate because gypsum cannot be landfilled with other waste. Asbestos, paint, solvents and fluorescent tubes are hazardous and need a specialist collection.
