What it is

The fastest way to clear a London construction site — no skip required

A Wait and Load Cage is a commercial waste clearance service built for sites where a skip isn't practical. We send a cage van and crew to your address, wait while you load, and drive the waste away — typically in 30 to 60 minutes on site.

For London builders, refurbishment contractors and shopfitters, it's the simplest answer to "we need this rubbish gone today" — no skip permit, no road licence, no overnight wait, no risk of fly-tipping into your skip.

Why us vs a skip

Why a Wait and Load Cage beats a skip on a London site

A skip looks simple until you add the permit, the delivery, the collection, and the overnight risk. A cage solves all of that in a single phone call.

  • No skip permit — major saving in central London
  • No road licence — kerbside spot is enough
  • No overnight risk — no fly-tipping, no torched skip
  • Cheaper than skip hire — once you add permit + delivery
  • No surface damage — no skid plates on fresh paving
  • Same-day available — book before noon
  • No skip rental period — pay for the collection, not days on site
  • 98% diverted from landfill — routed via our licensed disposal partner for recovery and energy-from-waste
What you can load

What goes in the cage

We accept

  • Bricks, rubble and concrete (small loads)
  • Wood, timber, pallets, MDF and chipboard
  • Plasterboard / drywall (segregated only)*
  • Insulation (segregated only)*
  • Packaging and protective materials
  • Fixtures, fittings and broken furniture
  • General mixed construction waste
  • Cardboard, plastic, metal offcuts

⚠️*Plasterboard must be segregated from the rest of your load. We cannot accept plasterboard mixed with general construction waste — it has to be in a separate pile, bag or section of the cage so we can keep it apart all the way to specialist disposal. Plasterboard and insulation are charged separately due to their specialist disposal route (sulphate-bearing waste cannot be tipped at standard transfer stations). Please flag the volume when you book.

We don't accept

  • Asbestos
  • Hazardous waste
  • Paint, solvents, chemicals
  • Gas bottles or pressurised containers
  • Liquid waste
  • Contaminated soil

If any of the above are found hidden in a load (intentionally or by accident), we'll document and photograph them and bill the full specialist disposal cost back to you. Please flag anything you're unsure about before we collect — it's almost always cheaper to handle it correctly upfront.

Case study

Piccadilly Circus flagship — no skip, no problem

When Forma Design were appointed for a flagship retail fit-out at Piccadilly Circus, taking a skip on site was a non-starter.

Piccadilly Circus is one of the hardest postcodes in the UK to take a skip into — the Congestion Charge zone, dense kerbside parking restrictions, and zero permit availability for an active retail frontage. Project manager Paul M. needed a way to keep waste leaving site without ever blocking the loading area.

Capital Recycle's Wait and Load Cage service became Forma Design's standard waste-removal mechanism for the duration of the project — booked through our online form for each collection, often the same day.

"Great communication, very responsive, reliable and accommodating."

"We used Capital Recycle's Wait & Load service over a 6 month period for our shop fit-out project in central London. The team were faultless in every aspect and always kept us updated prior to their arrival — very useful for a busy central London location. We highly recommend Capital Recycle."

★★★★★ — Simon L · Verified Trustpilot review

Forma Design has since used the same service for a follow-on Richmond (TW9) fit-out — 12 cage collections from August to November 2025.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can you get to my site in London?

Same-day if you book before noon, otherwise next-day. For weekend or out-of-hours jobs we can usually arrange with 24 hours' notice.

What's the latest I can book for same-day collection?

Noon is the cut-off for same-day. The earlier you book, the more likely we slot you in around the existing route. Anything after noon usually moves to the next working day — call 0207 101 4003 if it's urgent and we'll see what's possible.

How is this cheaper than a skip?

Once you add a 4-yard skip's permit (~£40–£100 in central London), delivery, collection, and the 7-day rental, our flat Half Load (£160 + VAT) usually comes in cheaper — and we take it away the same day.

Are there any hidden fees — fuel, congestion charge, mileage, weekend surcharges?

No. Half Load is £160 + VAT flat, Full Load is £320 + VAT flat. That covers fuel, ULEZ, congestion charge, kerbside collection, disposal at our licensed partner, and the Waste Transfer Note. The only add-ons are the ones shown on this page: driver loading (+£75), extra loading time (£1/min), out-of-hours surcharge (+£100). No mileage, no postcode loading, no minimum-weight bumps.

Do you offer trade or contractor accounts with credit terms?

We earn credit terms with our customers, not extend them upfront. First job runs pro-forma so you see the service and we see how your project operates. Repeat customers move to credit terms once we've built a track record — typically after a few successful jobs. For multi-cage projects or recurring contracts, call 0207 101 4003 and we'll talk through a contractor rate and how the account would work.

Can I get a VAT invoice for back-charging to my client?

Yes. We issue VAT invoices the same day as collection, sent by email to whichever address you nominate, with EWC codes and our carrier licence number for your duty-of-care file. If you need the invoice addressed to a property owner or main contractor for back-charge, tell us at booking and we'll raise it that way.

What if my job overruns the included loading time?

Extra time is billed at £1/minute + VAT (£60/hr equivalent) — only the minutes you actually use, no 30-minute blocks, no rounding-up. Half Load includes 30 minutes of loading; Full Load includes 60. Your driver flags the extra time when leaving site, and it appears as a separate line on the invoice.

Do you handle plasterboard from a strip-out?

Yes — but plasterboard must be kept fully segregated from the rest of your load. We cannot accept plasterboard mixed in with general construction waste; it has to be in a separate pile, bag, or section of the cage so we can keep it apart all the way to specialist disposal. Plasterboard is classified as sulphate-bearing waste under UK regulations and cannot be tipped at standard transfer stations — that's why it goes to a specialist disposal route and is charged separately. The same applies to insulation. Please flag the volume when you book so we can quote and route correctly.

Do you take pure soil, hardcore or rubble loads?

We can, but it's rarely the best economics for you. Soil and dense hardcore are heavy — a Half Load fills up on the 500 kg weight allowance before it fills on volume. For single-stream rubble or soil loads above roughly 2 yd³, a skip or pay-by-weight service usually works out cheaper. Mixed builder's waste with some rubble in it is no problem — just flag the volume when you book.

Can you take asbestos or hazardous waste?

No. Asbestos, hazardous chemicals, fuels, oils, and clinical waste are out of scope for our service. These need a separately licensed hazardous-waste carrier and a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note (HWCN). If you're not sure whether what you have is hazardous, call us before the job — flagging it upfront is faster than us refusing it on site.

What about paint tins, sealants, solvents and fluorescent tubes?

Small quantities of fully-dried paint tins, empty sealant tubes, and product packaging are fine in a mixed builder's load. Liquid paint, part-full solvent containers, fluorescent tubes, and batteries are classified as hazardous and out of scope — keep them out of the cage. If you have a significant volume, flag it before booking.

Will I get a Waste Transfer Note?

Every job. We email it the same day, so it lands in your records before the site closes.

What's your waste carrier licence number?

Capital Recycle Ltd holds an Upper Tier Waste Carrier Licence — CBDU466346 — registered with the UK Environment Agency. The licence is verifiable on the public Environment Agency register. The number appears on every Waste Transfer Note, quote, and invoice for your duty-of-care file.

Can you provide a recycling certificate or BREEAM landfill-diversion data?

Yes — for customers with BREEAM Wst 01/02 evidence requirements, main-contractor PQQ submissions, or client-side ESG reporting, we can issue a monthly recycling summary with tonnage handled and our blended landfill-diversion rate. Flag the requirement at quote stage and we'll set up the cadence from job one.

Do I need a skip permit?

No. The cage van uses your existing loading area or a kerbside parking spot — no permit, no road licence required.

What if I have more than one cage of waste?

Easy. We can scale to multiple cage collections per day across our fleet — multiple-cage bookings get a contractor discount. Call us on 0207 101 4003 for a custom rate.

Do you offer weekend or out-of-hours collections?

Yes. Saturday, Sunday and out-of-hours collections (before 8am or after 6pm) are available with 24–48 hours' notice — useful for Sunday-trading retailers, restaurant fit-outs that need to clear by Monday morning, or shopfitters working overnight in central London. A flat +£100 + VAT surcharge applies on top of your standard tier price to cover crew overtime and out-of-hours operational costs (this is in line with industry standards for premium construction-waste services in London).

Will your crew comply with our site's PPE requirements?

Yes. Our drivers arrive with full standard PPE — hard hat, hi-vis vest, safety boots and gloves — as a default on every commercial collection. Site-specific PPE rules (e.g. FFP3 masks for dusty environments, hearing protection, eye protection) — flag them in the booking notes and we'll confirm compliance before arrival. Our drivers are construction-site experienced and used to signing in to active sites.

Can you collect from upper floors, basements or back gardens?

Yes — that's what the driver-loading add-on (+£75) is for. Your driver brings the waste from inside the property, through corridors, up or down stairs, and out to the kerbside-parked cage. Heavy items needing two-person lifts, very awkward access (e.g. basement extraction with no internal stairs), or jobs where one loader would run out of time are a bespoke quote — call 0207 101 4003 before booking.

Can your team help load the cage?

Yes. Your driver loads it for you (1 person) for +£75 + VAT (£90 inc. VAT) on top of your Half or Full Load. That makes a fully-loaded Half come to £235 + VAT (£282 inc.) and a fully-loaded Full come to £395 + VAT (£474 inc.). Available next-day with 24 hours' notice. For heavy items needing 2-person lifts, or larger jobs where one loader would run out of time, call 0207 101 4003 for a bespoke quote.
