What is the EWC code for food waste?

The EWC code for food waste is 20 01 08, "biodegradable kitchen and canteen waste": food from a kitchen, canteen, restaurant, café or office, which is what goes in a separately collected food bin. It is a non-hazardous entry, so the collection is covered by an ordinary waste transfer note. Food waste from food manufacturing is coded differently, under chapter 02 (for example 02 06 01, "materials unsuitable for consumption or processing", for bakery waste), and garden waste is 20 02 01. Used cooking oil is 20 01 25. The code goes in the waste description box on the transfer note, next to the words, so the receiving site can match it to its permit.

Part of the EWC codes reference, covering Commercial Waste Collection.
