The trade waste sack: size, weight limit and contents

Our trade waste sack is a 140-litre heavy-duty sack, 16 × 29 × 36 inches, with a 5 kg weight limit printed on it. General waste sacks and dry mixed recycling sacks are the same size. They come in rolls of 25, and every order is two rolls.

What goes in the general waste sack

Food packaging and food-contaminated paper or card. Soft plastics, cling film and polystyrene. Disposable cups, food containers and takeaway packaging. Anything that cannot go in the recycling sack.

What goes in the recycling sack

Clean cardboard and paper. Rinsed plastic bottles and containers. Food and drink cans. Clean foil and trays. Keep it clean: a recycling sack contaminated above 5% can be reclassified as general waste during sorting.
Glass goes in a dedicated bin of its own, never in the recycling sack. Sanitary and offensive waste is a separate licensed stream and does not go in our sacks; we can refer you to a specialist partner. Food waste and cardboard can run as their own streams alongside the sacks, quoted when you enquire.

How pre-paid sack collection works

Pre-paid means you pay for the sacks and the collection is in the price. No bin and no bin rental, for a shop or café with no room for a wheelie bin.

Step 1, order

Tell us your postcode, how many sacks you fill in a week and whether you need recycling as well. Two rolls of 25 is the minimum order, every order.

Step 2, pay

Pay for the sacks before dispatch, by card or bank transfer. A recurring schedule is invoiced monthly, and we recommend Direct Debit.

Step 3, delivery

Rolls come from our own stock, usually within 24 to 48 hours of cleared payment, free of charge on a collection day.

Step 4, collection

Sacks go out on the agreed days, inside the time band your council sets for your street. In the City of London that is 18:00 to 08:00 (the rules are in our guide to City of London waste collection times). We confirm the band for your postcode before the first collection. Reorder when you open your last roll.

How much do trade waste sacks cost?

We charge from £1.50 + VAT a sack at 1,000 or more sacks a week, up to £2.20 + VAT a sack for general waste under 10 a week. Recycling sacks cost 10p less in every band except the top one. Delivery on a collection day, collection, transport and disposal are in the price. The annual waste transfer note is a separate service, shown in your quote.

Bands are set by your committed weekly volume on a 12-month agreement, on one of our routes. Prefer a 1-month rolling option? Add 10% a sack.
A shop filling three or four sacks a week pays £2.20 + VAT a sack for general waste, so its first two rolls come to £110 + VAT.

Trade waste bags and trade waste sacks are the same thing

Councils and most London collectors say sacks. Most of our customers say bags. It is one product: the pre-paid sack on this page is the commercial waste bag on our commercial bag collection page, at the same price, on the same rounds. That page covers daily collections, the accounts we run and a case study. This page covers the sack itself and how the pre-paid arrangement works.

Switching from council trade waste sacks

Many London councils sell pre-paid trade waste sacks by the roll and collect them in a set time band on your street. If that is what you use today, three things change when you move to us.
Rolls are delivered to your door from our own stock, usually within 24 to 48 hours of cleared payment.
Your rate is set by your weekly volume on the table above, and recycling sacks are priced below general waste.
You get an annual Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note for each stream, kept on file for you, so an inspection or an audit has the paperwork ready. More on what the note is in our guide to waste transfer notes.
What does not change: the same street time bands apply, and your business still needs a commercial waste arrangement under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Duty of Care. If you have a contract with a private collector today, check its notice period first. Once you are free to move, we start within 24 to 48 hours of cleared payment.

Where we collect trade waste sacks in London

We run commercial collection routes across central and Greater London, and we cover Watford and the WD postcodes. Weekly, multi-weekly and daily schedules are available; we confirm the day and frequency for your postcode when you enquire. If your postcode is in the grid, we already pass you on a route, so adding your sacks is near-zero marginal cost. If your postcode is not shown, ask anyway; we are always looking to fill route capacity in adjacent areas.

Trade waste sack questions

If your question is not here, call 0207 101 4003. More answers in the Bag Collection FAQ.
Do you sell sacks without collection?
No. Every sack we supply is collected by us; collection, transport and disposal are in the sack price.
What is the minimum order?
Two rolls of 25, so 50 sacks, on every order. There is no minimum on frequency: one or two sacks a day or a hundred a week, we set a schedule that fits.
How quickly can the sacks arrive?
24 to 48 hours from cleared payment is typical. Same-day starts are possible in most London postcodes if you order before 12:00. The sacks are in our own stock, so there is no print run to wait for.
Do I need a contract for pre-paid sacks?
Two options. A 12-month standard contract at the published per-sack rate, which renews for another 12 months unless you give 60 days notice before the renewal date; you can exit earlier with notice, and an early-termination fee applies, set out in your contract. We send a reminder 90 days before each renewal. Or a 1-month rolling option at +10% a sack. No multi-year tie-ins.
Can I put sacks out at any time?
No. Your council sets a time band for your street, and the sacks go out inside it. In the City of London the band is 18:00 to 08:00. We confirm the band for your postcode before the first collection, and our rounds work inside those windows.
What if a sack weighs more than 5 kg?
5 kg is the printed limit. Excess weight might be charged separately. If your sacks are consistently heavy, we will suggest a bin or a more frequent collection.
Do I get a waste transfer note?
Yes. Recurring customers receive an annual Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note for each waste stream, charged separately and shown in your quote. An ad-hoc collection receives a single-collection note on the day.
Can you take glass, food or cardboard with the sacks?
Glass needs a dedicated bin of its own. Food waste and cardboard run as their own streams, quoted alongside your sacks. Sanitary and offensive waste is a separate licensed stream; we can refer you to a specialist partner.
