Do you need a permit for a skip in London?

You need a permit for a skip in London only if it sits on a public road. A skip on your own land, a private car park or a driveway needs no permit; a skip on the pavement is never allowed. In most London boroughs the skip hire company applies for the permit and adds the council's fee to your hire, and some boroughs will only accept applications from the skip company. A permitted skip on the road also needs the lights and markings the council specifies, or you can be fined up to £1,000. If the permit, the wait and the fee are the problem, a wait and load collection avoids all three.
