How can I get rid of lots of cardboard?

Getting rid of lots of cardboard: a caged tipper full of flattened cardboard on a Kensington street

You get rid of lots of cardboard by keeping it flat, dry and separate, then having it collected as its own stream. Flattened boxes take a quarter of the space, and clean cardboard is easy to recycle, so a shop or stockroom with a lot of it is better off with a dedicated cardboard bin than with boxes stuffed into the general waste. A household recycling centre will take a resident's car load, but not trade cardboard. Keep it dry: wet or greasy cardboard is rejected by the sorting plant and goes to general waste. We collect clean cardboard in the recycling bin or in a dedicated 660 or 1100 litre bin on the same round.
