What can go in a commercial waste bin?
What can go in a commercial waste bin depends which bin it is. A general waste bin takes the non-recyclable rubbish of a business: food-soiled packaging, cups, plastic film, polystyrene, tissues, sweepings and mixed waste. A dry mixed recycling bin takes clean cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and tubs, cans, tins and foil. Glass goes in a dedicated glass bin and food waste in a sealed food bin. No bin takes liquids, batteries, paint, chemicals, gas canisters, fluorescent tubes, electrical equipment, asbestos or clinical waste. Bulky items such as sofas, mattresses and pallets go on a separate collection. Lids must close: an overfilled bin is unsafe to lift and may be left.
