What happens if you put garden waste in a normal bin?

If you put garden waste in a normal bin it goes to energy recovery or landfill with the general waste instead of being composted, and the bin may not be emptied. Councils and commercial collectors treat grass, hedge trimmings and leaves as a separate stream; a general waste bin with garden waste in it is often tagged and left, and a recycling bin with it in is contaminated and rejected. Soil and turf are worse: heavy, and classed as inert waste. For a business with grounds, a pub garden or a landscaping job, the lawful route is a green waste collection or a separated wait and load load, which goes to composting.
