Energy from waste

Energy from waste (EfW) is the treatment of residual waste by incineration in a plant that generates electricity, and sometimes heat, from the process. It is the main alternative to landfill for general waste in London and the reason a collector can quote a high landfill diversion rate for a non-recyclable stream.

Defined in the Commercial Waste Glossary.
