What to do if someone fly-tips on your land?

Fly-tipping on private land: boards, sacks, carpet and debris dumped along a narrow alley

If someone fly-tips on your land, report it to the council, but expect to clear it yourself. Councils investigate fly-tipping on private land and can prosecute the dumper, but they do not remove waste from private property; the landowner or occupier is responsible for clearing it and pays for the clearance. Photograph it before touching anything, and look for envelopes, invoices or labels that identify who it came from; hand those to the council's enforcement team. Do not move it onto the public highway, which becomes fly-tipping of your own. Then have it collected by a registered waste carrier and keep the waste transfer note. A wait and load collection clears a fly-tipped pile in one visit.
