Do businesses have to pay for waste collection?

Yes, businesses have to pay for waste collection: in England a business pays for its own. Business rates do not include it, and the council's household round will not take it. Under the duty of care in section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, a business must store its waste safely, hand it only to a registered waste carrier, and keep a waste transfer note for each load. The carrier can be the council's trade waste service or a private company; both charge. Taking your own waste to a household recycling centre is not allowed, and transporting it yourself regularly needs a carrier registration of your own. Prices for sacks and bins are on our pricing page.
