How do I dispose of confidential waste?
You dispose of confidential waste by having it destroyed, not just thrown away. Paper with personal data, customer details, payroll, contracts or medical records falls under UK GDPR, which makes the business responsible for it until it is unreadable. Small volumes go through a cross-cut shredder, then into the recycling. Larger volumes, archive boxes and old hard drives go to a specialist destruction service that collects in locked containers, shreds under supervision and issues a certificate of destruction for your records. Confidential waste must not go in an ordinary recycling bin or sack, and it cannot be taken to a household recycling centre. During an office clearance we route archives and IT through a specialist partner, with the certificate.
