How do I dispose of asbestos?
You dispose of asbestos through a licensed asbestos contractor or a carrier registered for hazardous waste, never through an ordinary collection. Asbestos is hazardous waste (List of Waste code 17 06 05*): it must be double-bagged or wrapped and labelled, moved with a hazardous waste consignment note, and taken to a site permitted to accept it. Removing sprayed coatings, lagging or insulation board needs a licensed contractor; bonded cement sheets and floor tiles can be removed by a trained person following HSE guidance. It cannot go in a skip, a bin or a household recycling centre, and burying it is an offence. We do not carry asbestos; we can refer you to one of our partners.
